President Uhuru Kenyatta warns headteachers against sending home learners with fee balances

President Uhuru Kenyatta has cautioned headteachers across the country against sending learners away for fees.

Speaking on local radio stations, President Kenyatta said that headteachers have no authority to send learners with fees balances home.

‘‘Let me be very clear, no child should be sent away from school because of school fees,’’ President Kenyatta warned.

He called on Kenyans to report school heads who sends learners home for fees, warning that the government will take stern action against them.

He acknowledged that most parents are facing economic hardships due to devastating effects of Covid-19 pandemic. He assured the parents that the government will protect those unable to pay school fees for their children.

The president, however, did not give any directions for learners in boarding schools, in both primary and secondary schools.
